Gear Hunter Deux
Back before moving to the new domain, I wrote a little entry about online gear shopping. Since that entry (in October), one of the sites, EndGear, has changed to Equipster. Still a subscription service, where you enter the type of outdoor equipment you are interested in, and they email you a bunch of deals available for your choices. Again, I haven’t had the opportunity to make a purchase.
One site I mentioned before was Steep and Cheap. Its niche is one-at-a-time super-deals. Only one item offered at a time, for at least 50%, and often around 70% discounts. I have made a variety of purchases from Steep and Cheap, probably more than is prudent, but have always been surprised by the speed of shipping. Recently I had a bit of a snafu, and accidentally ordered two times the amount I’d intended. I simply responded to the confirmation email and Steep and Cheap put forth a great effort to ensure one of my orders was stopped, and my card was credited. Service like that, ultra-low prices, and fast, cheap shipping is what I appreciate in an online merchant. I tell anyone who’s interested about Steep and Cheap.
Finally, if you also happen to mix fly fishing with your hiking, or vice versa, a new site has popped up recently which has a similar theme to Steep and Cheap. Deals on the Fly doesn’t turn over its product selection nearly as quickly as others, but of what I’ve seen, the deals are pretty good, and I’ve had to steady my hand a couple of times to keep some money in my accounts.

Prudent, schmudent. I love Steep and Cheap!
I agree that Steep and Cheap ships FAST! Even at the cheapest rate. They also now allow you to keep stuff in your cart for a week, and add eligible additional items for $.99. I felt that was something that was missing.
That’s right, I forgot to mention they’ll hold your items to save shipping costs. Thank you. I should mention they’re run by backcountry.com, which is a great site in its own right.
